Revise your chosen piece by adding "In Your Head Thinking".
Remember what I did to my Urgent Care piece?
Example: My finger exploded once he gave me the shot. It felt so weird.
Revised sentence: Once the first shot was done, my finger felt like it was going to explode. I don't know how I am going to get through this, I thought. The feeling was creepy and was making sweat and shake.

I had to go to Urgent Care today during lunch. Here is the small moment I wrote when I returned. I am focusing on a 5 minute moment and using dialogue (like James Howe's story from today).

We spent a lot of time today talking about how to do jot dots. Jot dots are a note-taking strategy that requires you to think about what you have read and make a statement about it using 5-7 of your own words. Using your own words is an important part of this strategy.
- Students are to finish the journal response they started today in class. They should have an understanding of their characters. Students will be sharing what they think about their characters, using their own words, and then providing direct quotes from the book that support those opinions. Finally, they will be asked to explain why those quotes were chosen.
- Tomorrow Mr. Evans will share the ACE format for writing a paragraph.
- A answer the question
- C cite evidence
- E explain
Here is a link, which will also be on the blog page (right side), to be used for reteaching.

Each book group split up the rest of the chapters to be finished reading by next Thursday, October 21st. The students have a schedule of the amount of chapters they should be reading each night. Journals will be done in school. Post-it notes are always to be used when reading. We look for character evidence that supports how the character talks, acts, and interacts with others. We also look for the big ideas that will make up the summary.

Read for at least 30 minutes.
We have spent the last few weeks learning how our class will work together so we can learn every day.
Next week we will start our unit on Kindness and Acceptance. The students have chosen a book to read from the following list:
Loser by Jerry Spinelli
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Crash by Jerry Spinelli
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
Firegirl by Tony Abbott
To kick off this unit, we watched the following video. It was very powerful for the students and sparked an awesome discussion. The following questions were raised during our discussion:
What is kindness? Can we always be kind? Are there different kinds of kindness? What does kindness look and sound like? We will attempt to answer these throughout our unit.
